PHHH & West Coast arrived for this joint bush run on a seriously hot afternoon, with the car thermometer saying 40° as we turned into Kalamunda Road. The run was set and catered by Stewie and a good turnout of way over 30 well represented by the West Coast boys made the trek up the hill, all well worth the effort
The OnSec and Nanny rallied all and away we went with some trepidation and warning from the Hare about the lack of traction on the pea gravel and honky nuts on very dry ground. Lots of attempted skating, but no men down on this occasion.
As always, West Coast blitzed the run with one or two Hashmen, notably Piggy for one staying the pace. Pig Trap led the walkers and just as well for those of us that lost the runners after the split on the first big climb. Thereafter there was a front running group, the second – a bunch of runners who did the whole loop but missed the drink stop with Nanny and Q up front and the third were some of us that saw folks up front who ended up being the walkers. The run was measured at 4.7km by two runners one being Prairie Dog and the loop below was 3½ km, which we covered in 39 minutes. The front running group would have been in about 3 or 4 minutes later with the second running group a long time after.
A very fine run at a difficult location and RA Emu scored a creditable 9.4. Setting this run at said location and with temperature as it was, made this a formidable performance.
The epicurean drink stop at Dave the Pom was up there as one of the best PHH would have seen in >50 years. Choice of beverages, fruit iced, water and dog bowls for the four-legged mob too.
The circle was a blessed with lower temperature and cold beer.
We heard subtle short jokes from OnSec and RA, which hit the mark. Down downs were made far more enjoyable by a great range of songs from West Coast. It is a pity that our songmaster has been sufficiently discouraged by our unmentionable critics to pull up stumps. Apologies to West Coast for these leaping off their garden chairs during the club songs and heading to the front of the queue rather than invite our guests to get their plates filled first.
Crayfish provided a carton for his birthday and missed the event due to the arrival of the first in a fourth generation of his descendants. Congratulations Crayfish and family.
The lasagne and salad was terrific and more than ample; you need not have worried. . It was hot and you and Pig Trap did a top job of serving. Credit to whomever was in the kitchen for this lot.
A great effort by the Hare, the co-hare and Dave the Pom.
