Run name:
Run 2175 Close to Your Heart Run - Committee
Run date:
Monday, October 3, 2011

Most notable of the committee pre-run were Mole & FT preparing dinner, Horse being helpful with everything and Ramrod who claimed to have set the run (and marked separate walk- good idea). The usual 6 or 7 klms run was claimed to have been trimmed to about 5 to help those of other clubs who had joined in this replacement event for the Shenton Park Wheelies run. This one was listed for the benefit of the Foster Carers – particularly close to FT’s heart and moreso as his beloved had just taken a four or five day old bub under her wing.
The run had a 6:30 start which in the cool conditions was a bit tough. Once started we (the runners) set off south-west wards towards the freeway only to turn eastwards and wriggle though a lot of lanes and residential streets. Good arrows and lots of falsies kept the reasonably sized pack together until Hamersley’s pre-run beers got the better of them. The promised drink stop did not happen (at least to your noble reporter who threw a fetlock about 4kms in). The run ended up hitting Scarborough Beach Road near Lasagna’s/Gnocchi’s profit palace and back along SCR to end with a run in from the north back to the bucket(s). Everyone seemed pretty happy with it all.
The circle was good with Hamersley not dominating as usual and a DD for the visiting GM’s. A speech from FT regarding the Foster Carers set the tone for the evening. All the clubs (including three people from Brisbane) provided their respective club hash songs and left high hopes for the coming dinner. The dinner, however, turned into a disaster when finger food required pates and spoons, the food serving arrangements did not work (until Phantom waded in) and the food apparently ran out before all were fed. Even the descriptions of the food (curried vegies/chicken etc with rice/couscous) were apparently wrongly given. This represents a great embarrassment for the Perth Club in the eyes of the metropolitan hash community and visitors. Just as well PH3 is not doing it next year and I hope that it causes reflection by those responsible for any cock-up and for any previous criticism of others for far less.
Congratulations to those who set the run and the success of the charity for which it was intended. The pressure is now on next weeks’ Hare Rusty to show how it is done.
